Luxor
Today we explore one of the most remarkable ancient cities in the world. Early in the morning, we take a private boat across the Nile, enjoying the tranquil waters and stunning views, and arrive on the west bank.
Our first stop is the “Valley of the Artisans” (Deir el-Medina), a lesser-visited site where the craftsmen who built and decorated the royal tombs of ancient Egypt lived. We visit three tombs, whose vivid paintings depict scenes of daily life at that time.
Next, we explore the magnificent Temple of Medinet Habu, built by Ramses III, famous for its large-scale reliefs depicting battles. We then pause at the Colossi of Memnon, two massive statues of Amenhotep II.
Our journey continues to the Valley of the Queens, home to the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut (Deir el-Bahari), honoring the first woman pharaoh. We also visit the famous Valley of the Kings, where the tombs of Egypt’s greatest pharaohs are hidden. These tombs include multiple chambers and corridors.
Afterward, we return to the east bank of Luxor for some free time for lunch.
In the afternoon, we visit Karnak Temple, the largest religious complex in Ancient Egypt, highlighting the immense Temple of Amun-Ra. Our guide will also take us to the less-crowded Temple of Khonsu. We continue to the Luxor Museum, which houses an impressive collection of artifacts and mummies from the area.
As night falls, we visit Luxor Temple, beautifully illuminated to create a magical atmosphere. Finally, you’ll have time to stroll through the nearby souk for shopping and local atmosphere.
